Random Thoughts After Watching "A Good Day to Die Hard":

Wednesday, February 13, 2013

(1) Obviously I don't remember much the previous Die Hard films, as I don't remember how John McClane has children. But after taking a trip down Wikipedia on the plots of the previous films, yes he really does have children, and the daughter is even played by the same actress from the fourth film. Conclusion: The film series didn't leave much impression on me, most likely this latest one will be the same.

(2) Can someone tell me how many cars were destroyed in the car chase scene early in the movie? Looks like a hell of a number.

(3) Speaking of destroying cars, do you mean to say nobody was detained by the police and nobody needs to pay for all the commotions throughout the whole car chase scene?

(4) Similarly, the McClanes seem to be getting away with everything they'd done & every damage they'd caused. No local authority was going after them, and they were escorted back to America as a hero?

(5) Why does the bad guy always insists on giving speeches before killing the heroes, instead of just pull the trigger right away and shoot the heroes in the head? Don't they learn anything from all the Hollywood action movies released previously?

(6) I know this has happened a few times before (In the Cold Light of Day, anyone?), but everytime I see Bruce Willis having an adult son/daughter in a movie I'm still shocked. I know, I know, it is only natural he becomes a dad at his age now, but bravo to him for willing to accept this harsh truth, not everyone can.

(7) Malaysia's movie censorship is so double standard & unpredictable. They muted all the dialogues with foul words (and there are a lot, so the movie is full of mute moments) although the movie had been classified as 18. What I don't understand is, some previous movies escaped the same fate, with foul language surviving the cut. Why only this movie? I hate it when they disfigure a movie, so disrespectful.

(8) How do you know you've watched too many typical Hollywood movies? When the several plot twists (yes, several) can't surprise you at all. You know A will betray B, B will fuck over C right from the beginning.

(9) Another sign of you watching too many typical Hollywood movies: The action scenes can't stimulate your senses. I know, I know, it's not the film's fault that I can no longer be satisfied by above-average action scenes. Just saying.

(10) Bottom line: If you are looking for 90 minutes of entertainment without much expectation, this movie is worth watching. I'll give it 2 1/2 stars.
