We've seen far too many independent and not so conventional princesses: Fiona (Shrek), Tiana (The Princess and the Frog), Rapunzel (Tangled). Adding in Merida from this film is no longer a cause of celebration anymore. Pixar animated films had always been interesting because they are so different from Disney-type animated films, but perhaps this time they strayed too close to a Disney movie and lost all its Pixar elements.
Last note: I do love the preceding short animated film "La Luna"... such a beautiful film with a very creative concept... Talk about some Pixar spirit, I wish they had made a feature film out of this short instead.
